Use Hangouts Meet to Build Rapport!

In the holiday spirit, this month’s KloudGem is all about using technology for building rapport with colleagues, clients, business partners.

December is the time for sending good wishes for holidays and for the new year, but building out business relationships takes more than that one card or email. A face-to-face meeting always seems to go a long way, doesn’t it? Why? Because we convey a lot of information in non-verbal ways. Turn on your camera the next time you are in a meeting: build trust and be kind to your travel budget at the same time.

Are You Sharing Files Safely in Google Drive?

The topic of today's KloudGem is a serious one. One of the most common mistakes I see people make with both G Suite and with Gmail-based Google Accounts is in the area of sharing.

Google Drive is a wonderful tool to facilitate collaboration as long as you are mindful about your sharing.

When you click the Share button on a file in Google Drive, the Get shareable link may seem like an obvious choice for sharing, but it actually opens your file up for wide access: depending on which Google Drive edition you are using (and any company settings), you may expose your file contents to your entire company or even to the entire world.

In the Advanced sharing settings in both a Gmail-based file and a G Suite-based file, you have more visibility into how your file is currently shared and can control how you give access much better.

There are some cases where the Get shareable link is the best option, but not always.

So share away, but share wisely and click the Advanced link in the sharing window!
And a quick Public Service Announcement to schools using G Suite:
Please make sure your staff is aware of how to share safely to ensure that your student, staff, and parent information is protected.
For a more detailed look at sharing, also check out Google's article on this topic.
