In today’s digital landscape, video has become a powerful tool for businesses to boost "Know, Like, and Trust" factors with prospects. People respond to video—it helps them get to know you, understand what it’s like to work with you, and ultimately increases the likelihood of sales. But for many, the technical hurdles of video editing have long been a barrier to entry.

Enter Google Vids, a cloud-based, AI-assisted video creation tool that feels like a hybrid of a video editor and a Google Slides presentation. As someone passionate about making IT simple and efficient, I’ve been exploring how Vids can streamline the creation process while enhancing storytelling.

Why Google Vids? Traditional desktop-based video editing software can be powerful but there can be a steep learning curve, and some of them struggle to integrate with cloud-based workflows.

Google Vids is cloud-native from the start. Key advantages include:

  • It is included in your Google Workspace Business software suite: Because it's part of the package, it doesn't mean extra overhead.

  • It has built-in AI assistance: You can create video drafts from a simple prompt, or enhance them by providing specific resource documents.

  • It is built to make video creation easy: It includes features like a teleprompter, AI avatars for narration, stock material, and editing tools.

Best Practices: Getting the Most Out of Your AI Drafts

My experience exploring Vids revealed that the quality of your output depends heavily on the quality of your input. Here are a few key takeaways from my sessions:

  1. Refine Your Prompts: Simply asking to "create a video about [Topic]" may yield generic results.

  2. Provide Contextual Resources: For the best results, provide the AI with specific content.

  3. Expect to Edit: While AI provides a fantastic starting point, especially in the layout, design and animated transitions, it isn't perfect. You might encounter issues with acronym pronunciation, or it can occasionally mispronounce words. The good news is that you don't have to re-create everything from scratch. You can easily edit the script, regenerate the voiceover to fix pronunciations, and swap out images or video clips within the editor.

Collaborating and Finalizing

One of the standout features is the ability to collaborate. Just like any other Google file, you can share a Vids project with team members. Copywriters can polish the script, while others handle the visual editing. When you're ready, you can download the final MP4 or export it directly to Google Drive or YouTube.

Ready to Simplify Your Video Workflow?

Video creation doesn't have to be a massive production headache. Whether you're part of an organization or a small business looking to connect more deeply with your audience, Google Vids offers a practical, accessible path forward.

If you’re looking to master Google Workspace tools or need help re-imagining your Google Workspace business workflows, I’d love to help.
